Soon the London retailers were stocking the new tableware range, but Derek had no wish to be a production potter.

It was fortuitous therefore, that in 1957 he met and became friends with John Warren-Davis, a contemporary sculptor who lived nearby. John knew luminaries of the art world such as Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson, and during the liberation of Paris in 1945, he had met the sculptor Brancusi – a meeting that would change his life. Now he, in his turn, would have a profound influence on the course of Derek’s creative life
